Feed at Reed’s: Get Up Close with Our Farm Animals!

Every Saturday at 1 PM, during sessions of our newest interactive program, Reed’s Farm comes alive with the excited chatter of visitors eager to learn about and interact with our beloved farm animals. Led by our knowledgeable animal care coordinator, Brenda Thorn, Feed at Reed’s provides a unique, hands-on experience that allows animal enthusiasts of all ages to get up close and personal with our chickens, potbelly pigs, and sheep. This program is designed to teach basic farm animal care in a fun and engaging way, making it the perfect weekend activity for ag-savvy families.

During Feed at Reed’s sessions, Brenda introduces and shares interesting information about Chevy and Isa, our sheep, Clementine and Rosebud, our potbelly pigs, and the friendly chickens in our flock. Through learning about the animals’ needs and the steps we take to keep them happy and healthy, attendees gain a better understanding of what it takes to properly provide for and tend to the furry and feathery residents of our farm. Brenda’s warm and approachable manner ensures that everyone feels comfortable asking questions and getting involved.

The highlight of the event, of course, is feeding the animals. Tossing tasty snacks to the chickens and watching the pigs happily munch on carrot peels is just plain fun. Armed with a handful of mealworms and food scraps from Reed’s kitchen, attendees get the chance to see firsthand how food connects us to our animals and our environment.

This program also emphasizes the importance of responsible farming and sustainable agricultural practices. Using leftovers from our kitchen to feed our animals gives us an opportunity to share about our efforts to reduce food waste, and explain how every animal, plant and person at Reeds plays a significant role in the farm ecosystem.

So if you’re looking for a fun, educational weekend activity, join us for Feed at Reed’s, every Saturday at 1 PM. It’s a great way to connect with nature, learn about farm life, and make some new animal friends!
